welcome back to the Skaject folks! this week, we’re checking out a Desmond Dekker release from 1996, it’s Moving On –

Mother Less (Motherless Child) has a really nice chorus to it – im digging this one quitr a bit. Mt. Zion has a good beat and some fun brass solos in there. on the whole, the other original songs were pretty solid, but nothing jumped out at me, tbh.

for the covers, im just kinda aight of the cover of the Beatles’ Blackbird. the cover of Mother and Child by Paul Simon i think is much more successful, though i think the Acapella version is strong than the Straight Mix that plays after on the record. the Wonderful World cover is also okay. the Satchmo mix has some alternative vocals, and i feel similarly about both versions. When I Need You, originally from Leo Sayer, was the one here i wasnt familiar with beforehand – neat!

the Double versions of the tracks were interesting, but in many cases not hugely different – definitely sells this as a collection of tracks to be split up and used independently, rather than as a complete package (which, almost fittingly, Spotify has completely ruined the track order on their version of this record). the Young Generation versions, for example, had some mild changes for the Rocksteady version, but it was much less than id have expected for a Rocksteady version of the track.

on the whole, and interesting release, and it’s nice to catch up with Dekker here, even if not a bunch blew me away.
