welcome back folks! our Aesop Rock record this wrek is his collaboration with instrumentalist TOBACCO as Malibu Ken – Malibu Ken

Malibu Ken is an interesting collab. TOBACCO provides the beats and instrumentals here – its a neat, offbeat, almost kinda grimey sound that fits pretty well into Aesop’s style, but its kinda hit and miss for me taste. i do like how songs like Corn Maze sound, but many of the others like Sword Box dont really land for me.

Aes’s lyrics here are pretty solid – the record is largely in his normal lane, reflecting on his current state and reacting to how he’s processing current events, with a bit of flair thrown in for fun, like on Churro where he talks about an eagle nest livestream. i particularly liked Tuesday, a song about his tense relationship with his house as a touring artist.

this definitely wasnt a groundbreaking release, but it was a fun listen and theres some real fun sounds here.

faves – Corn Maze, Tuesday, Churro
