welcome back to the Skaject folks! im a bit late posting this one, but for last week’s record, we’re listening to The Selecter’s Pucker!

this one really didnt land for me. The Selecter have been drifting away from ska sounds and towards poppier and new wavier influenced for a while (though this one does bring some twangier country guitar in Sugar Town), and its been hit and miss for me, but this one’s a miss. not a ton hooked me lyrically, unlike some of the Selecter’s earlier work. there are some promising tracks here – opener My Perfect World is pretty solid, the above mentioned Sugar Town is actually pretty fun, and Die Happy and Not So Tall work p well, and Hairspray has some neat instrumental components. that being said, there’s stuff here that doesnt work very much at all. ironically, i think Chocolate Whip plays the most with ska sounds and i just didnt like it at all.

on the whole, like i said, im not really a fan of this one. not a ton wrong with it, just not for me.
