Bim Skala Bim – Eyes & Ears
welcome back to the Skaject folks! our record this week is Bim Skala Bim’s Eyes & Ears, and its our first record of 1995!
on the whole, this was very fun! lotta really good grooves and pleasant songs on this record.
there is a bit of a lull around Crazy, but the highlights more than make up for it. Eyes & Ears, the title track, is buttery smooth. what an excellent song. i feel like Saving It Up hits a lot of the se spaces in my brain too, though quite a bit mellower. its largely the vocal delivery, but man its wild to hear Come On Over, a track that sounds so much like what Mad Caddies would transition into, this far before they started making music at all. Skeleton’s just funny.
i dont think there’s anything here that blew me away musically or lyrically, but man i was just tapping my toes just about the whole time. if i have any criticism here, its that it starts strong but the back half is def weaker – Crazy is the low point for me, and while it rebounds a bit around Simple song, the last few tracks were just less engaging for me.
faves – Eyes & Ears, Come On Over, Skeleton
dislikes –
Eyes & Ears – 7/10
next week, we’ll be travelling to Canada to check out the self-titled debut from The Planet Smashers!
