welcome back folks! today, we’ll be looking Daylight, an EP released in 2002.

the Daylight EP is an interesting project. it opens with the same track off the last record that the EP is named after, but then follows into Night Light, which, understandably, has a much darker tone to it. it riffs on many of the same lines and topics with a bit more aggressive of a perspective. interesting contrast.

Nickel Plated Pockets is a bit of ruminating on being poor and in an environment where its not much better around you, with ambitions to go further. Alchemy features a verse by a rapper named Blueprint – Blueprint’s verse is slower, more deliberate and spaced out, and on the second verse Aesop matches the pace for the most part. its interesting seeing him match the beat and the other verse, haha. also funny that he drops reference to Music for Earthworms here – with this much material he’s already got some in jokes and lore, haha. Forest Crunk is an instrumental song – neat beat. Bracket Basher is solid. the outro where he’s talking to another voice in the mix is near. the final track, Maintenance, also includes a bonus track, One of Four (Thank You). im not huge on Maintenance but i do feel much better about One of Four, a song which goes into a nervous breakdown Aesop had when he was going to go on tour to promote Labor Days, and acts as a thank you and apology to four of the folks who helped him through it. on the whole – neat EP.

faves – Nickel Plated Pockets, One of Four (Thank You)
dislikes –

Daylight – 6/10

next week, we’ll be looking at 2003’s Bazooka Tooth.
