welcome back to the Skaject folks! our record this week is Question the Answers, from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones!

alright, i’ll be honest – from the last skaject, i remembered this record being a lull in the Bosstones discography. More Noise and Don’t Know How to Party are both louder, faster, and more energetic, and their next record, Let’s Face It, is no doubt their best record. this one, i remember finding some gems but overall not enjoying as much.

and sure enough, that is correct! Question the Answers shifts almost completely away from the Bosstones’ strongest hardcore influences – i think 365 Days is the hardest they get here, and that song does not manage to successfully merge the mellower vibes with some of the more intense portions of the song. the verses just feel so disconnected from everything else. and i largely feel like the rest if the record feels mellow in a less interesting way.

highlights off this one for me are Hell of a Hat, a truly weird song thats a bit strange and lurching, and Dogs and Chaplains, a retake of Drunks and Children from their debut. i think the hook still works here haha. Bronzing the Garbage is also pretty solid, despite my previous dislike for the song (which i suspect was mostly stemming from the bridge). Jump Through the Hoops is also still a really solid closer.

on the whole, i dont dislike this one – it is kinda funny to me that there’s some if the biggest movement on track-by-track opinions for me on the revisit. i flipped on quite a few songs here, haha.

faves – Kinder Words, Hell of a Hat, Stand Off, Bronzing the Garbage, Dogs and Chaplains, Jump Through the Hoops

Question the Answers – 6/10

next week’s Skaject release is Hi-Bop Ska, from the Skatalites. the Weekly Review suggestion box is still empty, and while i enjoy the break im actually going to use the gap to review Candi Carpenter’s Demonology next week. see yall then!
